i was trying to not comment on the tumblarity thing (right) but yeah, totally agree with this. tumblr should be self-fulfillment.  judgment of popularity should be remain OPT-IN. the realm of google analytics, sitemeter, and gawker. shameless internet self-promotion is one thing, a social network based entirely on self-promotion is another, and it ain’t why people are so fiercely loyal to tumblr. i think tumblr’s opacity (when it comes to popularity) is what makes it work so well.
